The cemetery is in the Ancient ParishAn Ancient Parish is a Church of England parish which, until the 19th century, had both ecclesiastical and civil functions. of Godalming St. Peter and St. Paul.

Nightingale road / Deanery road. Opened 1857, closed 1955. 3 acres. 2 chapels and lodge.

First burial 11 May 1857 Agnes Hayward. 5527 recorded burials in 3 acres.

SHC 6846/3, 4 schematic map 1883 includes grave numbers plus burial register numbers and some names. Cemetery area defined here almost full. One unusual aspect is division of graves into Adult / Youth / Infant categories base on size. Grave classes not apparent. At this date some 1700 n/c and 2900 consecrated plots. Chapels non conformist and Episcopal.

WSFHS Root & Branch Vol 32.4 Mar 2006 – Graham Stevens & Alan Benny filming burial registers, 2000 records to date.

Visited 2005 - On a slope, semi urban nice railings gates and kissing gates. Chapels now used as “Skillway” training centre for metal and woodwork for teenagers – benefactors the Haberdashers Company. Nice trees and large bushes, trimmed yews, well kept although grass quite long. Mixed memorials including some Compton. No mausolea, some seats, no public toilets. Nice Lodge now a home.
