It is distinct from the civil parish, a local government unit in England of Holmbury St Mary in 1878. There are also a civic cemetery and Baptist, Roman Catholic and Methodist churches in Cranleigh, there was also an Evangelical Free church and a Plymouth Brethren Meeting house both of which have now closed. West Surrey Family History Society CD10 (Surrey Burial Index) has burial records for Cranleigh St Nicholas from 1609 to 1900. WSFHS CD33 (Ancient Parishes in the Hambledon district) has baptismal records for Cranleigh St Nicholas from 1566 to 67 and 1608 to 1840; marriages 1609 to 1837; and burials 1609 to 1840.
