Kingston on Thames Cemetery is in the ecclesiastical parishan ecclesiastical parish is an administrative area within the Church of England or Roman Catholic church. It is distinct from the civil parish, a local government unit in England of Norbiton St. Peter which was formed in 1842 from the Ancient Parishan Ancient Parish is a Church of England parish which had both ecclesiastical and civil functions of Kingston on Thames.

Friends of Surrey Cemeteries (Surrey Cemeteries: a survey, 2012):
Bonner Hill Road, Kingston.

Opened 1855 32 acres with twin chapels and lodge, crematorium 1952 at back of site. Kingston BC, Kingston KT1 3EZ. 0208 546 4462.

Main path leads to twin chapels at highest point of cemetery, designed by Aickin and Capes, opened June 1855, first burial 30th June 1855. 29,551 burials by December 1 1911. Kingston population grew from 12,000 to 54,000 1851 to 1901.

One chapel redundant and now housing Book of Remembrance. Path leads to the East past the war memorial to the crematorium which was designed in 1952 by the Borough surveyor. A stripped classical style but yellow stained glass makes inside unusual. Cloisters, pergola, pond, rockery and rose beds unkempt. Crematorium had 1150 cremations in 1954.

Area of 32 acres. Original Lodge house demolished in 1960s. Modern town house and recently modernised reception office built in its place together with storage buildings. Dawson road pedestrian entrance has an inner and outer gate. Closed by council in 2004 but opened after local campaign.

Visited 2008. Lodge a modern (2006) building with helpful staff and hi-tech toilets. Map at entrance plus taps, waste bins around cemetery. Cross of sacrifice beyond double chapel porte cochiere. Chapel of remembrance has two fine modern stained glass windows. Other chapel now repository for flowers – full! No mausolea but good collection of Victorian memorials in central areas. Modern areas average but well kept.
